MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE TOWN OF COLUMBUS,

COLUMBUS, MONTANA HELD AUGUST 3, 2009 AT 7:30 P.M.

 The meeting was called to order with the Pledge with Mayor Woltermann presiding. Council persons present were Gary Anderson, Patty Sundberg, Terry Nystul, Jon Brown, Paul Edwards and Harold Houghton. Officers present were Fire Chief Cowger, Chief Pronovost, DPW Holten, Attorney Howard and Clerk Barndt.

The Mayor asked if Council had reviewed the minutes of the 7/20/09 and were there any additions, deletions or corrections? Nystul moved to approve the minutes as written, seconded by Houghton, roll call; all-yes.

The Mayor asked for approval of the July claims. Brown moved to approve the claims, seconded by Nystul, roll call; all-yes.

There were no Petitions and Communications.

Reports of Officers

There were no questions for Rich

Edwards asked Chief Pronovost for comment on the Alternative request for funding. Bill thought that it was a good program for keeping track of misdemeanor violators. He said that Jim Hicks stated that without it, Juvenile Probation would not be very effective.

The Mayor stated that Columbus citizens are already paying for this through the taxes they pay to the County. Anderson said that he was not totally sold on the program. He referred to someone he knows who had had quite a bit of difficulty with Alternatives personnel. Council will be taking this request under advisement.

Bids for the Water Tank Re-coating will be opened on 8/12. We have had some logistic problems with the ad getting in the local paper. Dennis said that he had contacted Qwest regarding the pay phone on Pike. It is to be removed after Labor Day. It needs to be removed for the curb, gutter & sidewalk project.

Doug wanted to make sure that Council had gotten his memo regarding the Alternatives Funding Request.

Ron stated that he had received some of the smaller budgets and suggested that Council begin reviewing them next meeting. The Mayor wanted them on the agenda.

There were no Committee Reports.

Unfinished Business

Edwards was asked to present the revised request on the Alley Petition. He stated that he had worked with Kay Woltermann to reword the documents. There was an accompanying map of the area outlining what would remain open and what was being requested to be closed. Dennis stated that there are utilities in all parts of the alleys.

Attorney Howard stated that the procedure forward would be to publish notice twice and hold a Public Hearing. He suggested September 8, 2009 for the hearing.

There were no comments not on the agenda.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
