Guidelines

To avoid missed pick-ups, trash containers should be set out the night before or no later than 7:00 am on collection day.
Container Placement Guideline for Collection:
·         Placement of 96 gallon roll-out cart must be within 2 feet of the alley way for alley collection, and at least 3 feet from any obstructions, such as vehicles, fences, lamp posts, power poles or mail boxes, with wheels and handle toward the house.
·         Where no alley exists the 96 gallon roll-out cart must be placed at the curb line or street line for curb service.
·         During winter months, please keep your cart clear of snow.
·         Damaged Container Exchanges:
If your container is damaged (ie: broken or missing lid/wheels or cracks/holes in the container), please call the Town of Columbus at 322-5313 to request a replacement. Containers damaged as a result of normal use will be replaced or repaired. If containers have been deliberately destroyed/vandalized, or hot ashes have melted the container, etc. there will be a replacement charge. The resident/homeowner is responsible for cleaning.

Holiday schedule:
Six holidays are observed. Following a holiday, collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week. Friday’s collection will be on Saturday. Holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday do not effect collection.
Ø New Year’s Day: January 1st
Ø Memorial Day: Last Monday in May
Ø Independence Day: July 4th
Ø Labor Day: First Monday in September
Ø Thanksgiving Day: Fourth Thursday in November
Ø Christmas Day: December 25th

All trash must be placed in the container in order to be collected. Trash left on the ground next to container will not be collected.
To reduce litter it helps to bag trash before putting it in the container.
·         Do not put heavy materials such as rocks, dirt, concrete, sod or construction/demolition materials in your container.
·         Do not put more than 150 pounds of trash into container. Overweight containers cannot be dumped! You will need to download the container so that it can be dumped. We will re-service the container once it has been downloaded on your next service day.
·         Do not over pack container or trash will get stuck and container will not empty.
·         Lids must be closed. Do not stack trash on the rim of container or on top of the lids.
·         Do not put hazardous or toxic material like motor oil, batteries, solvents, pesticides, hot ashes, etc. in container.
Extra Trash:
If you have more trash each week than will fit into your container, you can obtain additional containers by contacting the Town of Columbus at 322-5313. There is an additional charge for additional containers.
Trash spills:
The solid waste collection company is not responsible for spilled trash caused by wind/weather, animals, birds, overfilled containers or containers with open lids.
